Selectable markers are some special genes present on a rDNA which helps us to distinguish them from normal DNA.The distinction can be on the basis of colour or ability to survive in specific conditions, or any other easily observable character.

Selectable marker are those gener introduced in d plasmid during d introduction of a foreign gene in to a host cell . . . . It is to keep a track of the plasmid during cloning of d gene . . . For example alpha lac z gene in puc 18 plasmid
