In the Intensity vs wavelength graph for X rays why is the intensity of characteristic x rays greater than the neighbouring continuous x rays?

We use heavy metal atoms for the generation of X- Rays(size of the atom is very large).  The incoming electron has more probability to Knock out a K-shell electron rather than being deflected by nucleus.......................If not satisfied please refer google
