Two cables of copper are of equal lengths. One of them has a single wire of cross section A and the other has 10 wires of A/10 each. Give their suitability for transporting AC and DC.

1. Only multiple strands for AC, either for DC

2. Only multiple strands for AC, only single strand for DC

3. Only single strand for DC, either for AC

4. Only single strand for AC, either for DC.

See equivalent resistance in each case comes to be the same so for DC either can be used. So two options are eliminated. However in AC parallel circuits power loss is lesser so multiple for AC. Rate!

in D.C iether of the two can be used but in ac, due to varying current and hence varying magnetic field, small small circuit loop forms which results in power loss . to reduce this power loss we reduce cross section to reduce circuit size but to transfer same amount of power need more such thin wires in parallel which is very familiar in daily life
