inertia is not a force.........its the resistance of mass, i.e. any physical object, to a change in its state of motion..... its like lazyness of an object to move or stop when acted upon by an external force ......its the measure of mass.....more the mass more the resistance to the change and more the inertia

Inertia is the property of a body by virtue of which it tends to RESIST any change in it's state of motion or state of rest ! Inertia is not a force but opposes external forces which try to acclerate the body ! Inertia is defined to be equal to the mass of the body !

Inertia is the resistance of mass, i.e. any physical object, to a change in its state of motion.Inertia is not a force but a propety of a body........In even simpler terms, inertia means that an object will always continue moving at its current speed and in its current direction until some force causes its speed or direction to change. This would include an object that is not in motion (velocity = zero), which will remain at rest until some force causes it to move.

Good answer @Nix. Very well answered. I'd just like to add a line: Inertia isn't a force, its a state... the most natural state any body can have

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible. |
