Two blocks of mass m and M are connected by means of a spring of constant k and the system is placed on frictionless floor.A constant force F is applied on M away from the direction of m.What is the maximum extension of the spring?(The answer is 2mF/(k(m+M)).But how?)

 acceleration of SYSTEM IS

a = F/(M+m)

equations:

F - kx/2 = Ma

F - kx/2 = MF/(M+m)

kx/2 = F[m/(M+m)]

x = 2mF/(M+m)k
