The State will initiate stringent action against students, teaching and non-teaching staff who indulged in malpractices during the PGET entrance examination for medical courses in 2010-11 in Bellary, said Minister for Medical Education S A Ramdas.

Responding to a question by G Madhusudan of the BJP, the minister said the matter has been handed over to the CID?for investigation and the inquiry report is likely to be submitted soon.

Apart from students, six faculty members and 21 non-teaching staff were taken into custody in connection with malpractices during the PGET entrance examination for medical courses.
“Recently they have been released on bail. However, stern action will be taken against them if they are found guilty,” Ramdas said.

He said that the High Court has directed for the withdrawal of medical degrees if the charges are proven. When asked about measures taken to avert such incidents in the future, the minister assured that adequate measures like installing CCTV cameras in the exam halls were being taken to ensure that students do not indulge in malpractices.

Use of biometric attendance systems will be effective in curbing impersonation, the minister added.
