Basically, optical isomers are different configurations of a potentially chiral molecule which show different results while rotating the plane of polarised light,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Some of the isomers may not rotate the plane of polarised light at all. Such isomers are called optically inactive isomers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The other isomers which rotate the plane by different amounts are called optically active isomers.

Optical Isomerism

Two molecules are optical isomers of one another if they are

mirror images of one another, and
nonsuperimposible on one another

and Chiral compounds rotate plane polarized light. Each enantiomer will rotate the light in a different sense, clockwise or counterclockwise. Molecules that do this are said to be optically active  !!!!!
