Suppose a conductor plate.An electron is ejected from the surface { by any external force} then the plate gain a positive charge at the surface,this because electron is ejected and break the nutrality of the surface.The positive charge on the surface is called as the IMAGE CHARGE..which tries to bring electron bring to the surface.
