Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

Introduction
MCAT is an obligatory examination for getting admission to almost all the medical colleges in USA. The examination is conducted by Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and is conducted twice a year in April and August. This is a standardized, objective type examination that is planned to assess the problem-solving, critical thinking and writing skills of the candidate. Furthermore, candidate’s knowledge on science concepts and principles pre-requisite for study of medicine is also tested by the examiner.

This is a full day examination that expands over four sections i.e. Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, Writing Sample, and Biological Sciences. This test assesses candidate’s knowledge about the basic concepts in biology, chemistry and physics, facility with scientific problem solving and critical thinking and writing skills. The skills so tested by MCAT are termed essential as pre-requisite for practice of medicine by physicians and medical educators.
