About the Course

The  course of studies leading to the award of degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences shall last for a minimum of 5 1/2 academic years including one year's compulsory.



Duration of this course is 5 1/2 years i.e. 4 1/2 + 1 year compulsory internship.



The internship is not allowed outside the AIIMS.



The MBBS course is divided into three phases and semesters as under:



Pre-clinical

Phase-I - Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Para Clinical

Phase-II - Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology,



Clinical

Phase-III - Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology,

Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology & Venerology,

Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology.

Internship - One year (Batches to be made by

Academic Section)

Specialty - Duration

Medicine - 1 1/2 months

Surgery - 1 1/2 months

Rural - 3 months

Paediatrics - 1 month

Obst. & Gynae. - 1 month

Casualty - 1 month

Anaesthesiology - 15 days

Ophthalmology - 15 days

Elective - 2 months



Total 12 months

The interns are entitled for stipend of Rs.5,000/- per month or more as per

orders of the Government of India from time to time. The Foreign National

candidates are not entitled for any stipend.



  • A total of four attempts shall be allowed to a student to pass the 1st professional MBBS examination held in July and no additional attempt shall be permitted thereafter to any candidate i.e. Indian  or foreign national.  



  • The candidate, who fails in four successive examinations in the 1st   M.B.B.S examination shall not be permitted to continue further his/her studies at this Institute and his/her name will be struck off from the roll of the AIIMS.



  • After passing the Final M.B.B.S. examination, all the candidates will be required to do compulsory internship for a period of one calendar year in the hospital  and rural health centres recognized by the AIIMS.  During the internship period, the interns are allowed a total of 15 days leave in full term of one year.  The degree of M.B.B.S. shall be awarded to them after satisfactory completion of one year's internship.



    All candidates admitted have to reside in the Institute's hostels, if offered accommodation.
