If is the answer, then the process is as......

 

let total length of the chain is L and total mass m.

and  part be haning over the table.

 

So length of chain hanging is L  and part above the table is L(1-).

Mass of the hanging part of the chain is m and of the part above the table m(1-).

For the chain to be in equilibrium, the wt. of the hanging part should be equal to the frictional force acting on the part above the chain. So, the given equation follows....

SO,   PART OF THE CHAIN WILL HANG.

so, length of the chain hanging is
